Choose a valley before choosing a room

For a first visit without a car, Andorra la Vella makes the arrival simple. Stay near the national bus station for an early departure, or closer to neighbouring Escaldes-Engordany if Caldea is your main plan. Check the actual walk to the hotel: the old centre sits above the river, and a short distance can include steps or a climb.

Ordino gives you a village centre and the Casa d’Areny-Plandolit museum. It is a good choice for a slower night, but it is separate from the high slopes at Ordino Arcalís. For the eastern valley, use our Canillo and Soldeu guide. Canillo is the starting point for the Tibetan Bridge shuttle; Soldeu is farther along the road and has its own resort access.

Two or three nights let you combine a town visit with a full outing. Moving hotels every day is unnecessary if the buses fit your plans.

Arriving from Spain or France

There is no passenger railway into Andorra. Direct Bus serves Barcelona Sants and both airport terminals. Its road-journey estimates are about three hours from Sants and three and a half from the airport. Andbus uses different Barcelona stops and also serves Toulouse and Lleida. Its Toulouse timetable allows three and a half hours from the airport; Matabiau departures start earlier.

Use the Barcelona route or Toulouse route to match the stop to your ticket. Keep a late arrival light, and leave room for traffic and border checks before a flight home.

Local buses need a little route planning

The national bus network follows the valleys. L6 and L7 serve Ordino by different routes. L4 runs along the eastern valley through Canillo and Soldeu; L3 adds services but has gaps and no Sunday operation on the current timetable. Start with the route for your destination, then check the correct direction and day.

The fare table has three zones. Ask for the ticket covering your destination and any change of bus. An international coach ticket, a national bus ticket and an attraction shuttle are separate products unless the ticket expressly combines them.

Spend on the day you want

The budget article separates rooms, meals, local travel and paid visits. The calculator uses adjustable spending examples. Replace the room allowance with a real quote, including mandatory charges; split a whole room only between the people sharing it.

A museum visit, a Caldea session and a ski day have very different costs. Choose the activity first. For a meal in a traditional borda, look at the menu and the journey home rather than expecting an automatic discount.

Before crossing the border

Andorra is outside Schengen. The Andorran government directs visa-required travellers to arrange the appropriate double-entry or multiple-entry Schengen permission for the return through France or Spain. Carry the documents required for your nationality and circumstances.
