Choose one purpose for each day
A day in Amalfi and nearby streets is different from a Path of the Gods hike or a series of boat stops. Choose the main activity first. That lets you find a useful outward and return instead of filling every gap with another transfer.

Read the port as carefully as the town name
Check the operator, pier and date on a ferry booking. Salerno has more than one port area, and a booking that simply says the town name needs a closer look. Travelmar's timetable is useful for its coastal routes; other operators use their own services and conditions.
Leave room for weather or traffic changes before an important flight or long-distance train. Outside the main season, confirm that a ferry is operating rather than carrying a summer plan into winter.
Start the Path of the Gods at the right height
The usual Bomerano starting point is in Agerola, above the coast. Arriving by ferry in Amalfi does not put you at the trail entrance. Travelmar describes a ferry-and-shuttle connection to Bomerano; compare it with the current bus options.
Arrange the return from your chosen finish before walking. The descent towards Positano can add substantial steps after the main trail. Check local notices and weather, carry water and choose another activity if the route does not suit the conditions or your comfort with heights.

Buses follow the coast road; boats connect selected towns when operating. Match the service to your date and port. Ferries avoid road traffic but depend on sea conditions and do not reach every hillside village.

A sandwich or bakery lunch can suit a walking day, with water bought before the trail. Read restaurant menus and beach-service prices before choosing a seat with a view.
Worth Paying For
A ferry journey if it buys useful time and the sea conditions allow it, or a coastal stay if relaxed evenings matter more than the lowest nightly price.
Skip / Save Your Money
Driving the coast solely to save money on bus tickets. Parking, restricted access and traffic can make the car less useful than expected for a town-focused visit.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Sorrento is on the other side of the peninsula, not a short walk from Amalfi. A cheap-looking base can add repeated journeys. Compare total nights and planned excursions, not just one room rate.
