Visiting the Amalfi Coast in August
An August trip can work if you choose a useful base, plan around heat and crowds and keep each day's travel simple.
August is not automatically the wrong time for the Amalfi Coast. It can suit a holiday built around the sea and long evenings, especially if school dates limit your options. It is harder for a trip that tries to see several towns every day while keeping costs very low.
Choose a base that reduces daily travel
Look at the walk from your accommodation to the ferry landing or bus stop. A room high above the waterfront may have a lovely view but involve many steps. Ask how you will arrive with luggage and get back after dinner.
If you stay in Salerno or another transport base, check the actual journey to the places on your list. A lower room price can be useful, but repeated crossings cost time and money. One day in a coastal town is often more enjoyable than three short stops.
Keep the hottest part of the day lighter
Plan a longer walk for a cooler period, then leave time for lunch, shade or a rest. Reserve beach services only after checking what is included. Public access and a rented beach setup have different costs, and August does not guarantee space at your preferred spot.
The Italian holiday calendar includes Ferragosto on 15 August. Check restaurant and transport arrangements around the holiday rather than assuming everything closes or everything runs normally.
For ferries, consult Travelmar for your date and port. Boats depend on sea conditions, so avoid a final-day connection that leaves no alternative if a sailing is cancelled.
Consider another season for a different trip
