Split the city from its day trips

Walk a manageable part of the historic centre first, with a church or museum that interests you. Give the waterfront its own time rather than assuming it is beside every old-town stop. A day in Naples can be full without leaving for Pompeii, Capri or the coast.

For a longer stay, alternate a city day with an outing. That leaves room to move an outdoor trip if heat, sea conditions or transport changes make another day easier.

Choose the Pompeii visit before the train

Pompeii's official tickets distinguish Express at €20 from Plus at €25. Express covers the ancient city; Plus adds the named villa and linked-site visits. A cheaper ticket is useful only if it covers the route you want. There is no re-entry on the ordinary visit, so arrange food, water and your meeting point before going in.

Ordinary EAV services and Campania Express are different products. EAV has announced that Campania Express will be suspended from 1 October 2026 until further notice. Check the operator's notice before booking a later journey; this is not a notice that all Naples–Sorrento trains stop.
