Circumvesuviana or Campania Express?
Choose a Naples–Pompeii–Sorrento train with the right station and comfort level, and check the October 2026 suspension.
Campania Express is due to be suspended from 1 October 2026 until further notice. EAV's announcement also explains refunds for existing bookings after September. Check the notice before planning an autumn journey around that service.
For dates when it runs, Campania Express offers a different experience from the ordinary Circumvesuviana service. Your choice depends on the departure available, the fare and how much you value a reserved seat.
Ordinary trains and the tourist service
Circumvesuviana trains are part of the local EAV network. They are useful for everyday travel, but you should be prepared for busy carriages and standing. Keep luggage manageable and valuables close, particularly when boarding and leaving crowded trains.
Campania Express is sold with reserved seating and air conditioning. Use EAV's current timetable and fares rather than assuming it runs as often as the ordinary service. Paying more only helps if the departure fits your day.
A ticket for one product should not be assumed valid on the other. Check the ticket type before going through the gates or boarding.
Pick the station for your visit
Naples Garibaldi's EAV platforms are separate from the mainline platforms at Napoli Centrale, even though they form part of the same large station area. Allow time to follow signs and find the correct entrance.
For the Pompeii archaeological site, check which entrance you plan to use and which station serves it. Pompei Scavi–Villa dei Misteri and the station called Pompei on another railway line are different stops. Match the transport with your site ticket and meeting point.
Do the same for Herculaneum and Sorrento. A station arrival does not include a shuttle to every attraction nearby.

A later train may have different seating
Where a running Campania Express product permits a stop on the way, the original reserved seat does not guarantee the same seating on a later departure. Read the actual conditions before planning a Pompeii stop with that ticket.
