Sorrento Travel Guide
Sorrento is useful for a trip mixing the town itself with Pompeii, Capri or part of the coast. It sits on the Bay of Naples side of the peninsula, so an Amalfi Coast outing still takes travel time. Choose a few trips and leave a day that does not start at a station or port.

Choose the day trips before the hotel
A station-area base is useful for Pompeii and Naples. A room closer to the port can suit boat trips but may add a climb to the town. A hillside property may need a shuttle or taxi that does not appear in the nightly price. Check these journeys before deciding where to stay.

Keep the rail products distinct
EAV's ordinary services and Campania Express have different tickets and travel conditions. The operator has announced a Campania Express suspension from 1 October 2026 until further notice. For later trips, check the ordinary railway timetable or another suitable connection.

Leave a day for the town
A walk through the centre, a look towards the bay and time around Marina Grande can fill a gentle day. The lower waterfront and upper town are at different levels, so choose the return route before your legs are tired. A public viewpoint does not require a restaurant booking.
Give the coast or Capri a full day
Check the actual port, sailing and return. Sea conditions can change a boat plan, while road traffic affects buses. Avoid putting the last available ferry immediately before an important train or flight connection. For the Amalfi Coast, decide whether you want one town, a walk or several short stops; the transport plan will be different for each.

Where to Stay
Near the railway station, compare the walk to your room and evening noise. A seafront or hillside address may add steps, a lift or another transfer. Check the full room price before assuming Sorrento is cheaper than every coastal town.
Getting Around
EAV trains link Sorrento with Naples and Pompeii. Buses and boats serve different onward trips. Check the selected service and allow time between the railway station, town and lower port.
Eating for Less
Choose a simple lunch and a sit-down meal you want. Gnocchi alla sorrentina is one regional option. Read the menu and cover charge rather than relying on fixed old prices at the waterfront.
Worth Paying For
A boat trip when the destination and time ashore are what you want. Add the island's local travel and chosen visits before comparing the full day cost.
Skip / Save Your Money
Trying to visit Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast on consecutive rushed days if you want a restful stay. Keep an unscheduled day for Sorrento or move one outing to a future trip.
