Start with the city, not a long checklist

Málaga is worth staying in for its own streets and visits. If you have two nights, use your first afternoon for the centre and waterfront. Keep the next morning for the Alcazaba or an art museum, then leave time for lunch and a slower afternoon.

The walk towards the port is easy to combine with the old centre. Pedregalejo is a different outing farther along the coast, so allow for the journey there and back if you want a seaside meal. You do not need to visit every beach area to enjoy a short stay.

Understand the two fortress visits

The municipal admission page lists €7 for one monument or €10 for the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro together. Sunday entry is free from 14:00. Last admission is an hour before closing, and winter visiting hours are shorter.

Choose the combination if you want both visits and have time for the distance between them. They are not connected by a simple indoor passage. In hot weather, avoid turning an afternoon climb into an endurance test; use transport for the uphill part if that helps, and take water.

Pick the right airport train stop

The Cercanías network links the airport with the city on line C1. María Zambrano is the main long-distance railway station. Centro Alameda may be more convenient for a central address, so look at the final walking route before deciding where to get off.

Check the day's departures for an early flight or a late arrival. A short journey time does not mean the train runs all night. If you arrive by high-speed train and leave by air, include time for the change of service and the airport terminal.

Choose an art visit by what is on

Málaga has several art museums, and their exhibitions and ticket products differ. Pick the collection you most want to see and check its own admission page. Free-entry periods can depend on the day and closing time; an old fixed afternoon hour is not a reliable plan for every season.

Book enough time to enjoy the visit. Adding a second museum simply because it is nearby can make both feel hurried, particularly with a flight or train later that day.

Make room for a proper meal

At a chiringuito, look at how fish is priced and ask how many people a portion is intended to serve. Start with fewer plates and add something if needed. On a hot day, a shaded table and a relaxed lunch may matter more than a small difference in the menu price.

For the next stop, compare Seville with Madrid, or build a longer trip through Granada. Keep your main timed visit away from the travel day when possible.

Use Málaga as an endpoint, not an automatic extra stop

The ten-day Andalusia plan finishes with two Málaga nights after Granada, leaving a full city day before departure. Check whether your Granada coach arrives at Málaga bus station or the airport; they are different destinations in Alsa's booking system.

For a shorter trip, Seville–Málaga can replace the Granada section, while Madrid–Málaga gives a different starting point. Neither means the airport transfer is included. Keep the final night where it supports your departure, and compare the complete room-to-terminal journey before committing to an early flight.
