Amsterdam and Rotterdam are roughly 80 km apart. For the fast domestic rail route, search Amsterdam Zuid to Rotterdam Centraal. A suitable Intercity direct takes about 40 minutes. Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam Centraal are different stations, so check the name before setting off. A conventional departure from Centraal may suit your address better even with a longer train ride.
The NS Intercity direct page explains the current route. Use the planner for your date and allow time to reach the platform. Engineering works can change the best option.
Add the right supplement
Domestic travel over the high-speed section between Schiphol and Rotterdam requires an Intercity direct supplement in addition to a valid rail fare. The ordinary single supplement is €3.20. At eligible off-peak times, buying it at the red supplement pole reduces it to €1.92. Check the current supplement rules before paying.
Tapping the red pole does not replace your normal train check-in. A qualifying international ticket has different supplement conditions, so check its coverage before paying twice. The route comparison keeps an earlier total-fare estimate; use the NS planner for today's base fare and the correct supplement.
When a coach makes sense
A coach can be useful if the booked departure and arrival stops are convenient and the saving is worth the extra time. Amsterdam Sloterdijk is outside the central canal area. Add local fares, luggage charges and traffic to the comparison rather than choosing on the headline price alone. Follow the stops printed on your ticket, as not every departure uses the same place.
At Rotterdam Centraal, decide whether to walk, use local transport or leave your bags before sightseeing. The Rotterdam guide separates the Blaak sights from the riverfront so you can plan a comfortable day. Continue to The Hague if following the six-day itinerary.
