Change at Myrdal for the fjord

The rail journey starts at Bergen station, follows the Bergen line to Myrdal, then changes onto the Flåm Railway. Flåm is not on the main Oslo–Bergen line. Search the complete Bergen–Flåm journey rather than buying two trains whose times almost meet.

The Flåm Railway itself takes about an hour. Your total journey also includes the Bergen–Myrdal section and the connection, so use the time shown for the selected departure. Leave room for luggage and platform changes. Check disruption notices before setting out, especially when a separate cruise booking depends on the arrival.

Decide whether you are visiting or staying

An overnight stop gives you more room for the fjord than a short visit between trains. Compare the complete room price and meal options before committing. Flåm is a small destination; a cheaper room described as being in the area may be in Aurland or another village and require additional transport.

For a cruise, confirm both ends. The Nærøyfjord cruise runs between Flåm and Gudvangen, taking about two hours one way. Gudvangen is not Flåm station. A shuttle bus or a suitable packaged return can complete the loop, but check that it is included and that the time fits.

Make the return a separate plan

Rail fares vary with the selected journey. Check whether your booking covers both railway sections and whether changes are possible. The cruise, shuttle and hotel are separate unless the package explicitly lists them.

For a day trip, choose the return before filling the middle of the day. For a stay, use the Flåm–Bergen guide when choosing the onward train. In wet weather, keep time for the railway museum and village rather than adding a demanding walk because it was in the original plan.
