Climb to Myrdal, then continue west
From Flåm station, take the Flåm Railway to Myrdal and change to a Bergen-bound train. The branch line takes about an hour; the complete journey depends on the onward train and its connection. Use a Flåm–Bergen search for the day you intend to travel. A timetable for Bergen–Flåm is not a return booking.
Keep your tickets easy to reach and allow time to move your luggage at Myrdal. Check current service notices, particularly if engineering work changes a platform or adds replacement transport. A connection that looks possible on an old itinerary may not be offered for your date.
Do the cruise before a relaxed rail departure
If you want a cruise on departure day, work backwards from the train. A Nærøyfjord sailing to Gudvangen finishes away from Flåm station. You need the return shuttle or another confirmed transfer as well as the cruise time. Avoid making the train depend on a very tight bus arrival.
Staying two nights in the area is another approach: use the middle day for the cruise and take the train the following morning. That adds a room night but removes the need to join every activity into one long transfer day. Compare the whole plan, not just the rail fare.
Arrive in Bergen with an easy evening
Bergen station is central, but hillside accommodation may involve more walking than the distance suggests. Check the route to your room before arriving with bags. A harbour walk and dinner are enough after the journey; keep a paid museum or mountain ride for a day with more time.
Check the full fare for both railway sections and any restrictions. Airport travel is additional. If you are flying from Bergen the same day, allow for the city-to-airport journey and airline check-in, and consider returning a day earlier when the connection would otherwise be tight.
