Free walks and views in Prague

Prague is easier to enjoy on foot when you leave room between the best-known sights. Cross Charles Bridge as part of a wider walk, then choose one park or hilltop area rather than trying to reach every viewpoint in the same afternoon.

Let the river guide the first walk

Walk from the Old Town towards Charles Bridge, then continue into Malá Strana or along the river near Kampa. Stop where there is room to look at the view without blocking a narrow pavement. The bridge can be busy early as well as late, so no particular hour guarantees it to yourself.

If you want morning light, check sunrise for your actual date. Six in the morning means very different things in June and December. Choose a time that also leaves you comfortable walking in the conditions.

Choose Petřín or Vyšehrad

Prague City Tourism's park listings show the gardens and facilities around both areas. Petřín gives you a hill walk above Malá Strana. The gardens and the paid lookout tower are separate choices, and any funicular journey has its own operating and ticket arrangements.

Vyšehrad offers paths, river views and a different part of the city to explore. Its outdoor visit should not be confused with admission to every church, exhibition or underground space. Start from the transport stop that best suits your mobility, since different approaches involve different climbs.

Bring shoes that grip on wet paving. In winter, shorten the walk if paths are icy, and leave enough daylight for the way down. A park visit is still worthwhile if you skip the highest point.

Keep an indoor option nearby

A café break or one museum can turn a rainy day into a comfortable visit without buying a whole sightseeing pass. Choose it before you are cold and tired rather than walking farther in search of the cheapest option.
