Chișinău makes a useful base for a first visit to Moldova without a car. You can use city transport for everyday journeys, then arrange selected trips outside the capital. The harder part is often the final few kilometres to a village guesthouse or winery.
Before booking an outing, ask the destination how visitors arrive without driving. A bus to a nearby town may still leave a long walk or a taxi ride. Check that final leg before deciding the public transport option is cheapest.
City transport and bus stations
Moldova Travel's transport guide explains the main options and notes that Chișinău has several bus stations. Confirm which station your route uses, then look up the journey there from your accommodation.
Use current local fare and route information rather than treating an older tourism-page price as a fixed quote. Keep suitable local cash if needed and ask how to pay on the service you board. A city ticket does not automatically cover an intercity minibus.
Save the destination name and address on your phone. This makes it easier to confirm the stop without relying on pronunciation alone.
Plan one countryside outing at a time
For a winery visit, book the tour and transport together where possible, or ask the winery to explain the available transfer options. Agree pickup, waiting time and the return price before leaving. A tasting appointment is not evidence that a public bus will get you back afterwards.
For a village stay, ask the host about the current bus and whether they can meet you at the nearest stop. Leave the arrival day light. Trying to combine several rural destinations can cost more in transfers than spending longer in one place.
