Choosing a Vienna transport ticket
The old 48- and 72-hour tickets are no longer sold. Compare singles, a 24-hour ticket and seven days using your actual sightseeing plans.
Do not plan a Vienna visit around the old 48- or 72-hour transport tickets. Wiener Linien stopped selling those ordinary products from 1 January 2026. The useful comparison now includes single journeys, 24 hours and seven days.
Start by counting the days you expect to use transport heavily. A seven-day product can make sense for a shorter stay, but only if it costs less than the tickets you would otherwise buy.
Digital and paper prices differ
Wiener Linien's ticket list, checked on 8 September 2026, gives these prices:

The 24-hour ticket has a selectable start and covers Vienna's core zone. Read the personalisation and validation requirements for the format you choose. A named digital product should not be treated as a ticket the whole group can pass around.
For three days of extensive travel, three digital 24-hour tickets would cost €29.10, compared with €25.20 for seven days. That makes the longer product worth checking, even if you leave before its validity ends. If one of those days is mostly walking, compare singles too.
Check the airport separately
Vienna Airport is outside the core city zone. An ordinary Vienna city ticket therefore does not by itself cover the entire airport journey. The correct extra ticket depends on the route and any other pass you hold.
Use the official journey planner with the airport as the destination and enter your existing ticket where the booking system allows it. Do not assume an express airport product and an ordinary suburban train have the same fare.
Choose for the visit you want
Group nearby sights into the same day to reduce unnecessary crossings of the city. Leave room for a tram or metro ride back when you are tired, particularly if your accommodation is outside the historic centre.
If considering a visitor card with attraction discounts, compare it with the ordinary transport ticket plus the entry fees you would actually pay. A discount for an attraction you do not intend to visit has no value to your trip.
