Give the museum a proper morning

The Cyprus Museum is a useful first stop before the old town. Its collection puts the island's archaeological sites in context, and admission is free. It is on Mouseiou Street, outside the walls, so visit it before wandering deeper into the centre. The usual calendar closes on Monday and gives Sunday a shorter opening period. A Sunday arrival is a good reason to reverse the order of your sightseeing.

You do not need to read every display to enjoy the visit. Choose the rooms that interest you, then leave a break for lunch. Save the longer streetside walk for a cooler part of the day rather than trying to cover the museum and both sides of the city in one hurried morning.

Build the walk around your room

Use the old walls, Eleftheria Square and the pedestrian streets around Ledra as reference points. Pick two or three places you want to stop and connect them on foot. The distance between sights is only part of the effort: shade, road crossings and time indoors matter too. If your room is outside the centre, plan the bus home before setting off for dinner.

Look closely at the map when choosing accommodation. “Nicosia” covers a divided city, and an address on the other side may not fit the airport transfer or entry arrangements you expected. Keep the airport and city buses separate

Kapnos serves Larnaca Airport from its Nicosia shuttle station on Kyrenias Avenue. Budget for the onward trip between that station and your room. It is a different journey from the Larnaca–Nicosia intercity bus, whose city stops and timetable need checking separately.

For ordinary CPT urban buses, a daytime cash single costs €2.70. A plastic Motion card has a different fare and an issue cost, so it is not automatically the better purchase for one or two rides. The Cyprus bus guide compares the systems without treating every island bus as the same service.

Leave space in the budget

Choose a room you can afford for the whole stay, then set separate amounts for meals, local rides and any paid visits. Free museum entry can keep one day inexpensive, but it does not turn a hotel or airport transfer into a free extra. In the spending examples below, replace the sightseeing allowance with your chosen tickets and count each once.
