Nicosia suits a day of museum rooms, old streets and long lunch breaks. Stay near the walled centre if you want to explore on foot, and treat a crossing into the north as a separate choice that needs its own preparation.

Choose the part of the island you want to enjoy
Larnaca suits a straightforward arrival, old-town walks and time beside Finikoudes. Nicosia is a different sort of stay, built around museums and the walled centre. Give it time beyond a hurried stop on the way to another coast.
Farther west, Limassol combines a long seafront with the old town, while Paphos makes a useful base for the archaeological park and Tombs of the Kings. Those Paphos sites are separate visits; put them on different mornings if you prefer a slower pace.
Ayia Napa works for beach time, with the exact hotel street making a large difference to your evening. Choose Troodos for mountain walks only after checking how you will reach the trailhead and return. A village address and Troodos Square are not interchangeable destinations.
Decide which journeys need a bus
The main intercity network connects the cities, but local buses and airport shuttles have separate tickets and stops. For example, the ordinary CPT daytime cash fare in Nicosia and Larnaca is €2.70. EMEL in Limassol, OSEA around Ayia Napa and Pafos Buses publish different local fares. Read the bus guide before buying a pass for the whole stay.
Intercity singles are €5 on Larnaca–Nicosia, Larnaca–Limassol, Limassol–Paphos and Larnaca–Ayia Napa/Paralimni. Nicosia–Limassol is €6. These are bus fares between city stops, so add the approach from your room and any airport ride. Carry cash for the Intercity driver and check the full stop list.
For a car-free holiday, two bases can be easier than a new room every day. If you rent a car for the mountains, compare the full rental price and parking with the outings it will actually make possible. Check the rental agreement before considering any Green Line crossing; do not assume every vehicle or insurance policy allows it.
Balance archaeology with time outside
The Cyprus Museum in Nicosia is free, while Limassol Castle and the Kato Paphos archaeological park each charge €4.50 for ordinary adult admission. Tombs of the Kings costs a separate €2.50. Choose visits because you want to see them, then compare any pass with that list. Two inexpensive admissions do not automatically justify a pass.
On hot days, put exposed sites and longer walks early in your plan and leave an indoor visit or a rest for later. At sea caves and cliff viewpoints, stay behind barriers and use marked access. A photograph of someone jumping is not evidence that a place is safe for swimming.
Build a budget for the nights you will use
The headline and city amounts are chosen spending examples, not measured averages or available hotel offers. Use your complete room quote, count a shared room once and replace the activity allowance with actual tickets. Add airport and intercity travel separately when it is not already included.

Limassol works best when you separate the old centre from the long hotel coast. Spend time around the castle and Molos, then choose one beach or mountain outing instead of crossing the city repeatedly.
Paphos has two different centres: the harbour area in Kato Paphos and the upper town around Karavella. Choose the one that fits your stay, then give the mosaics and Tombs of the Kings separate blocks of time.
Larnaca is an easy place to settle into Cyprus: an airport nearby, a seafront for a first walk and an old centre around Saint Lazarus. It also works as a bus base, provided you match each route to its actual departure stop.
Ayia Napa can be a beach stay, a nightlife break or a quieter coastal visit. Choose the part of town that fits your evenings, then leave room for the sculpture park or a museum instead of making every day a paid excursion.
Troodos is a region of villages, forest roads and trailheads, not one walkable town. Choose a specific base and one realistic outing each day; Platres and Troodos Square suit different walks and bus stops.
