Cinque Terre works better when you choose a few places to spend time in rather than trying to complete five villages before lunch. Trains link the coast, but station walks, hills and boat waits still shape the day. Check open trails before choosing a walking route.

Choose the walking route before the card
Start with the park's current trail information and your fitness. The coastal paths are not one uninterrupted, level promenade. A closure can change the day substantially, while a train journey offers a useful alternative between villages.
The 2026 card changes removed the old Plus category and included the Via dell'Amore in the Train Card. You still need a reserved time for that path. Follow its entry direction and current conditions; do not arrive assuming the card alone secures immediate access.
Compare journeys you will actually take
The official Train Card tariff lists €22, €29.50 or €35 for a standard adult day during 14 March–1 November 2026, depending on the date band. It expires at midnight on the selected day. A later arrival therefore gets fewer usable hours than a morning start.
For one village and a short walk, individual tickets may be worth comparing. For several eligible train rides and the included park access, the card may make more sense. Boats are a separate service, so do not count them as ordinary Train Card travel.
Make the base fit your evenings
La Spezia offers a city base south of the park; Levanto has a different beach-town setting to the north. A village stay makes early and late walks there easier. Our accommodation comparison explains the station and luggage trade-offs without promising a fixed saving.
Keep an easier plan ready
After rain, follow closures rather than trying to walk around barriers. Wear footwear suited to the marked trail and allow for steps and exposed sections. Monterosso–Vernazza trail: Trekking Card
From €10.00Booking and rates: The adult one-day Trekking Card costs €10 or €15 on peak dates and ends at midnight. It does not include regional trains. Check open paths and the Via Corone access from Monterosso; wear suitable walking shoes.

Eating for Less
A focaccia or simple takeaway can suit a day between villages. Eat where permitted and take rubbish with you. A harbour edge is not automatically a safe or allowed picnic spot in every condition.

A card when the included trains and walking access fit your day. Choose the date band and visitor category before comparing it with individual tickets.

Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
