Where to stay for Cinque Terre on a budget
Compare Levanto, La Spezia and the five villages, with advice on station access, rail passes and choosing a manageable base.
For a budget trip to Cinque Terre, begin your room search in Levanto and La Spezia as well as the five villages. Both towns connect to the coastal railway, but they offer different surroundings at the end of the day.
Do the transport calculation before deciding how much an out-of-village room saves.
Levanto for a beach-town base
Levanto sits north of the five villages and works well if you want beach time alongside sightseeing. Check the accommodation’s walking route to both the station and the waterfront. A property in the wider Levanto area may be uphill or require a bus or car.
A room near the sea can be convenient for a slower stay. For an early train most mornings, station access may matter more.
La Spezia for arrivals and a wider room search
La Spezia is a working city south of the villages, with a larger urban area to search. For repeated rail trips, focus on the walk to La Spezia Centrale. A waterfront address and a station address are not the same thing.
Check your incoming train too. Some regional services use La Spezia Migliarina, so read the actual station name on the ticket.
Add the train cost honestly
The national park’s 2026 Train Card includes eligible second-class regional travel between La Spezia and Levanto. For adults aged 12–69, the one-day card costs €22, €29.50 or €35 during the 14 March–1 November season, depending on the date band.
It expires at midnight on its stated day, rather than lasting 24 hours from first use. Compare it with tickets for your planned journeys and any walking access you need. A card is not automatically worthwhile for one village visit.

When a village stay makes sense
Staying in a village gives you easier access to early mornings and evenings there. You may value that more than a modest room saving elsewhere.
Ask about steps between the station and the entrance, particularly with large bags. Confirm luggage storage and check-in arrangements before an early arrival. For walking days, consult the park’s current trail notices; a room booking or rail pass does not guarantee that a path is open.

The 2026 cards include Via dell’Amore with a reserved entry slot. This does not guarantee that every longer trail is open. Choose the card around your train rides, open walking route and actual date, then book the slot if wanted.
