Book Reykjavík for night one, a Selfoss-area room for night two, Vík for night three and Reykjavík for night four. The Golden Circle map marker represents Selfoss for this plan; a Flúðir or Laugarvatn room changes the approach. The return west happens on day four, before the departure day.
This is a fairly active short trip suited to conditions that allow the planned roads and walks. In winter, shorten the outings and keep bookings flexible. If you do not want to drive, compare a Reykjavík base with organised excursions instead of assuming regional buses reproduce each sightseeing day.
The first day is arrival and a gentle city outing. On day two, visit the Golden Circle sights and finish near Selfoss. The Reykjavík–Golden Circle guide distinguishes the direct Selfoss transfer from a full sightseeing circuit.
On day three, head to Vík with time for selected waterfall walks. A Reynisfjara visit depends on current access and warnings. The next day returns to Reykjavík, leaving enough room for breaks and an easy evening. A separate Reykjanes or spa visit belongs only if current access and the time available make it practical.
Four chosen whole-room allowances total €640: Reykjavík €150 twice, Selfoss €165 and Vík €175. Five days of food at €40 and extras at €10 add €250. That makes €890 for one traveller before the car and paid visits. There is no hotel night on day five.
For two adults sharing those rooms, the room total stays €640 and the other daily amounts double to €500. The subtotal is €1,140 together, or €570 each. These are adjustable allowances, not room offers or a measured average. Use your actual room quote for the number of guests staying.
For a worked example, choose €450 for the complete rental including selected cover and road-use charges, €80 for fuel and €35 for parking or tolls. This €565 vehicle allowance is illustrative, not a current rental quote or fuel-price claim. It is counted once for the group.
Adding it makes €1,455 for one traveller, or €1,705 together for two sharing, before paid activities. Replace each allowance with the real quote or actual cost. If you keep the car for fewer days, recalculate the rental and any airport coaches needed; do not count a coach and a car transfer for the same journey.
Published ISK admissions stay separate from these EUR examples. Choose the pool, spa or guided activity you want and use the booking’s actual currency conversion when adding it. Parking is a vehicle charge; activity tickets are generally per person. Do not add a charge twice when it is already in a package.
Keflavík is about 50 km from central Reykjavík. Check the exact car-return location and any shuttle to the terminal, then leave time for airline check-in. An early flight may make a Keflavík-area fourth night more useful than the city room in this example. Reprice and change that night deliberately if needed.
