Adapting to the Iberian Rhythm

If your schedule requires traveling to Spain or Portugal during peak summer, you must abandon standard 9-to-5 tourist schedules and adopt the local Mediterranean biological rhythm.

The Summer Daily Schedule

  1. 08:00 to 12:00 (The Activity Window): Complete all outdoor sightseeing, castle climbs, and walking tours before midday solar radiation intensifies.
  2. 13:00 to 17:30 (The Shelter Window): Return to your air-conditioned accommodation, visit subterranean museums with climate control (like the Prado or Reina Sofía), or enjoy a 2-hour indoor Menú del Día lunch.
  3. 18:00 to 21:00 (The Resurfacing): Stroll through shaded parks, watch the sunset from miradouros, and enjoy cool evening breezes.
  4. 21:30 onwards (Dinner and Nightlife): Spaniards and Portuguese do not eat dinner until 21:30 or 22:00. The streets come alive with families and music after dark.
