Plan the whole connection
Search from Luxembourg City to the Vianden stop that suits your visit. A usual route takes a train to Ettelbruck, then RGTR bus 181 towards Vianden. Use the dated journey planner because works can move stops or change the connection. Save the return journey before you leave, along with a later option.
The domestic second-class train and ordinary bus are free. You do not need to reserve them weeks ahead for a lower fare. First-class rail has different rules, and an international journey into Luxembourg still needs the appropriate ticket for its foreign section.
