Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air cabin bags

The three airlines all include a small bag, but the limits are not interchangeable. A bag accepted as easyJet's free item may be too large for the free Ryanair or Wizz Air allowance. Check the operating airline for every flight before choosing one bag for the whole trip.

The dimensions apply to the outside of the packed bag. easyJet states that handles and wheels are included. Wizz Air says its size allowance excludes handles and wheels, but wheels may add no more than 5 cm. The Ryanair policy page lists the dimensions and requires the bag to fit under the seat.

Do not rely on the product name printed by a luggage seller. Measure the packed bag at its widest points and include rigid pockets. A soft bag can still fail if it is filled beyond the permitted depth.

These products can include benefits beyond the bag. Ryanair and Wizz Air connect the larger item to a priority product. easyJet says a purchased large cabin bag includes Speedy Boarding. Compare the full booking price, not the bag label alone.

Choose one bag for a mixed-airline trip

Use the smallest relevant allowance for a bag that must be free on every flight. For a Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air itinerary, that normally means fitting within 40 × 30 × 20 cm and staying at or below 10 kg because Wizz Air publishes that weight limit.

If you buy an overhead allowance on each flight, use 55 × 40 × 20 cm and 10 kg as the shared limit across the three products shown above. This is a planning shortcut based on the current published limits, not a separate airline rule. Recheck each booking before travel.

A mixed itinerary can also include a codeshare or a flight sold by one airline and operated by another. The operating airline's baggage terms are the important ones at the gate. Read the booking confirmation rather than assuming the marketing airline's limit applies.

Measure before paying

Pack the bag as it will travel, including coats or shopping that must fit inside. Then:

1. Measure height, width and depth at the largest points.
2. Include handles and wheels unless the airline's wording clearly says otherwise.
3. Weigh the bag with the items you will carry on the return flight.
4. Check that the under-seat bag can close without bulging.
5. Save the airline allowance shown for your fare.

If a free bag is too large, compare the online price of the correct baggage option before arriving at the airport. The easyJet and Wizz Air guidance both warn that exceeding the allowance can lead to charges, and easyJet recommends buying bags online to avoid airport fees. Ryanair provides separate cabin and checked-bag products, so make sure the product puts the bag where you expect it to travel.

Check the return journey again

Baggage products may be selected per flight or fare. A larger cabin bag on the outbound journey does not prove it is included on the return. Open both legs and check each passenger.
