Stockholm is easier to enjoy when you give its islands separate days. Walk through Gamla Stan, spend a proper morning at the Vasa Museum, and leave room for a ferry ride or a long lunch. You do not need to cross the city for every stop.

Make three days feel different
Use your arrival day for Gamla Stan and the waterfront. The small streets are better suited to wandering than to a tightly timed list. On Södermalm, allow extra time for the climb towards Monteliusvägen; its narrow paths and steps may be awkward with wheels or ice underfoot.
Give Djurgården another day. Start with the Vasa Museum, then choose lunch and a walk nearby instead of rushing through a second large museum. A third day can stay flexible: a neighbourhood, another museum, or Uppsala if you want a change of scene.
Work out the SL ticket before paying
The adult single is SEK 43. Four separate singles cost SEK 172, slightly less than a SEK 180 day ticket; five cost SEK 215. Journeys made within one ticket's 75-minute validity can share that ticket, provided you make the final change before it expires.
The 72-hour ticket is SEK 360. It is worth comparing when several transit-heavy days sit together. Buying it in the app avoids the SEK 50 charge for a new physical SL card. Ferry 82 between Slussen and Djurgården is an SL service; an archipelago cruise sold by another company is not automatically included.
Pick the airport journey for your group
Arlanda Express takes 18 minutes to Central. An adult single is SEK 340, but two adults travelling together cost SEK 460 in total. Compare the group total with other options before dismissing it or buying two separate singles.
The SL rail ticket with Arlanda's station passage fee costs SEK 200 for an adult. An existing SL pass does not remove that fee. With a slow arrival day, compare an airport coach or a bus connection through Märsta. With an early departure, choose a service that actually runs at your required time.
Spend on what you came to see
The Vasa ticket includes the ship museum, not every attraction on Djurgården. Skansen has its own seasonal adult price, and Skansen Aquarium is a separate purchase. Choose the visit first and the pass second.

Choose somewhere near Stockholm Central for onward trains, or near a useful metro stop on Södermalm for neighbourhood walks. In an old building, check the lift and bathroom arrangements before booking with luggage.
Getting Around
An adult SL single costs SEK 43 and lasts 75 minutes; a 24-hour ticket costs SEK 180. Walk within one area and use transit between islands. Airport rail fees and many sightseeing boats are separate.

The standard adult SL single is SEK 43 with 75 minutes validity; make the final change before expiry. This bus route avoids the Arlanda rail-station passage fee.

Look for a weekday lunch menu when you want a cooked meal. Compare what is included, then keep dinner simple if lunch was generous. A kitchen is useful only if you will actually cook.
Worth Paying For
The Vasa Museum is a strong choice for one paid visit. Adult admission is SEK 240 from May through September and SEK 195 during the other months; visitors aged 0–18 enter free.
Skip / Save Your Money
Leave the airport express out when its time saving does not help your arrival, and skip a sightseeing package whose included visits you would not otherwise choose. Gamla Stan and a waterfront walk need no package.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Do not buy a transport pass because a boat appears on the map. SL commuter ferries and commercial cruises have different tickets. Check your exact pier, service and return sailing.
