Check which countries a roaming plan covers
EU roaming, a provider Europe zone and an eSIM region can describe different country lists. Check every stop and transit country.
Start with a list of every country where the phone may connect. Include airport transits, border regions, ferry routes and day trips. Then compare that list with the provider's current coverage page.
EU roam-like-at-home rules apply to eligible mobile subscriptions used while periodically travelling in the EU. Official guidance also explains fair-use controls and warns that data outside the EU and EEA can be expensive. A commercial Europe zone or regional eSIM may use a different boundary.

Do not assume Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Türkiye, microstates, islands or maritime networks are included because they appear on a map of Europe. Use the provider's exact country list and tariff.
Estimate the data you need
Navigation, messaging and tickets use much less data than video, photo backup or laptop tethering. Check whether the plan permits a hotspot and whether it throttles speed after a threshold. Download offline maps and media before travel if the allowance is small.
The Trip Cost Check can compare plan prices, but coverage gaps belong in the assumptions. A cheaper plan that leaves one stop uncovered may require a second purchase.
Save a screenshot or PDF of the plan terms and activation date. Provider zones and fair-use limits can change, so recheck shortly before departure.
