San Marino’s towers: choose the walk and museum ticket

San Marino's towers are best enjoyed as a choice of viewpoints and interiors, not a compulsory three-stop march. Guaita and Cesta are the First and Second Towers in the state-museum circuit. Montale, farther along the ridge, is an exterior stop rather than a third ordinary tower interior on that ticket.

Choose how far to walk

Start in the historic centre and work uphill towards Guaita. Continue towards Cesta if the weather, time and steps suit you. The connecting ridge path includes exposed views and uneven surfaces; take your time and use the marked route.

You can turn back after one tower or replace part of the walk with a museum in town. Wet paving, wind or a tired child are good reasons to shorten the route. Reaching all three exteriors is not necessary for a worthwhile visit.

Buy the ticket for your actual list

The standard state-museum circuit ticket is €11. Eligible overnight visitors can ask their San Marino accommodation for the TuttoSanMarino Card, which reduces it to €8. Check current inclusions before buying separate entries.

Cesta contains the Museum of Ancient Arms. The Museo di Stato offers local archaeological and artistic collections if you want a less weather-dependent visit. Use Musei di Stato for opening and last-entry information. Palazzo Pubblico is listed as closed through 30 September 2026, so do not add its interior without checking reopening.

Leave time to get down

The cable car from Borgo Maggiore reaches the upper town, but its seasonal closing time still matters. The international Rimini bus leaves from a different stop below the centre. Save the correct return location before walking uphill.

For one night, the two-day itinerary leaves the towers for the second morning. For a day trip, have lunch before the final descent and keep a buffer for the bus rather than adding one more viewpoint at the last minute.
