Where to stay in Andorra: the capital, Ordino or Canillo
Choose an Andorra base around your coach, hotel entrance and main outing, with practical differences between the valleys.
Put your arrival point, hotel entrance and main activity on the same map before booking Andorra accommodation. The country is small, but its valleys still decide how much of each day you spend travelling.
Andorra la Vella for a first car-free break
The capital suits a trip mixing town walks, meals and day outings. Staying within a manageable walk of the national bus station helps with an early coach or a late arrival. Check the route with luggage: an address in the old centre can mean an uphill finish.
If Caldea is the main reason for your visit, also compare neighbouring Escaldes-Engordany. Look at the walk to the spa itself and the return to your coach, rather than assuming every central hotel is equally convenient. Our capital guide helps place the two parts of the valley.
Ordino for a village night
Choose central Ordino if you want time around Carrer Major and the house museum, with a quieter village evening. Ask whether the room is in the village or elsewhere in the parish. A similar booking label can cover very different final journeys.
L6 and L7 both serve the area, but their stops and routes differ. L7's current timetable names Auditori Nacional in Ordino; match that or another stop to the address. If you plan dinner away from the hotel, check the last useful bus before reserving.
A stay in Ordino does not put you at Ordino ArcalĂs. A mountain day still needs its own transfer. The Ordino guide explains the distinction and the parish's seasonal services.
Canillo or Soldeu for the eastern valley
Canillo is practical for the Tibetan Bridge shuttle and, during its operating season, the Canillo gondola. Soldeu suits plans around its own resort sector. The villages share a valley route but are not one walkable resort centre.
For winter, ask the hotel which lift and ski-school meeting point guests use. Confirm any shuttle hours and equipment storage. For summer, check the actual opening dates before paying extra for lift access; different activities close at different times.
Use our Canillo and Soldeu guide to choose between them. Avoid building a holiday around a lift merely because its name appears beside the property.
Questions that change the final cost
For a kitchen, confirm whether you have private cooking facilities and usable equipment. For a car, ask about parking availability and the charge. For an early departure, ask about checkout and the walk to the correct bus stop. If stairs are a problem, ask about the entire route from street to room.
For three nights, one base can be enough. If you choose a night in Ordino, move because you want the evening there, and arrange luggage drop-off before sightseeing. The four-day plan offers both approaches without adding unnecessary hotel changes.
