Walk through the palace before buying a ticket
Enter through the Golden Gate, continue to the Peristyle and explore the small lanes on either side. The palace is part of the living city. You can enjoy its public streets without buying a tour.
The paid cellar rooms cost €10 for an adult. They are a sensible choice if you want to understand the building beneath the streets; the shopping passage alone is not the complete visit. Cathedral tickets cover different combinations of rooms and the tower. Choose at the ticket office by the Peristyle, and allow for narrow stairs if you include the climb. Keep a second day flexible
Walk towards Marjan while it is cooler, then return for lunch rather than planning a long exposed climb at midday. If the weather turns, use an indoor museum and the old town's shorter walks. Pazar is useful for a simple picnic shop; carry your lunch waste back out with you.
For a beach afternoon, choose one stretch of coast and check the return bus before settling in. Adding several beaches and an island in the same day usually means spending more time in transit than beside the water.

Two different airport buses
The Platanus shuttle costs €10 one way and runs directly to the main bus station beside the ferry port. It is often the simpler choice with luggage or an island connection. Airport shuttle.
Promet's local 37 serves roadside stops and ends at Sukoišan, farther from the harbour. Its airport information lists a €3 fare to Split and a journey of about 50 minutes; check the current ticket price and timetable before boarding. The airport-to-Trogir fare is a different journey. Match the ferry to the town
For Hvar Town, choose a passenger boat that actually calls there. A car ferry to Stari Grad lands elsewhere on Hvar island and needs onward travel. For Korčula, check Korčula Town rather than assuming every island ferry arrives beside the old town. Read the seasonal dates before booking your room.

Ticket optionsBooking and rates: Choose the current cathedral ticket combination at the Treasury ticket office by the Peristyle. The tower has steep, narrow stairs.

Lučac is useful for the bus station and ferry port; Varoš suits walks towards Marjan but has sloping lanes. Bačvice can work for a beach break. Check late-night noise, air conditioning and the exact walking route with bags before choosing a room inside the palace walls.
Getting Around
The main coach station, railway station and ferry port are close together. Local bus 37 uses a different city terminus at Sukoišan. Walk around the palace and Riva; use a local bus for a longer beach trip and leave extra time on roads towards the airport.

Pazar, beside the east side of the old town, is a useful place to start with fruit and picnic supplies. At a konoba, compare the daily cooked dishes before ordering fish sold by weight. Ask whether bread and side dishes are included, especially when sharing.
Worth Paying For
The palace cellars for a closer look at the Roman structure, or the cathedral bell tower if the steep climb appeals. Pick one paid visit first and leave space for the city outside.
Skip / Save Your Money
A rushed island excursion on a day when you also need to reach the airport. Marjan and the waterfront give you a lower-cost day without another ferry booking.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
There is no single admission ticket for every street inside Diocletian’s Palace. The paid cellars, cathedral rooms and bell tower are separate choices. Check what a guided tour includes before buying another attraction ticket yourself.
