Prague, South Bohemia and Moravia offer different reasons to visit Czechia: major sights, a castle town or smaller cities with lively squares. Spend in Czech crowns and look for the dated lunch menu. The city guides explain where a day ticket or museum card actually saves money.

For a first visit of about a week, our suggested starting plan is three nights in Prague, followed by two in Brno and one in Olomouc. That keeps the second half in Moravia. Leave the final travel day flexible around your flight or onward train.
If small historic towns appeal more, use Prague and Český Krumlov as the two main bases. Karlovy Vary works better as a western addition than as a stop between Krumlov and Brno. These are suggested routes, so adjust the number of nights to your arrival time.
A walk through squares and parks needs a different budget from a day of paid interiors. Mark your two or three priority visits on a map before buying a city card. Put nearby sights together and add the individual admissions. Buy the card only if its included visits and transport cover that plan.
For example, the Český Krumlov Card costs 490 CZK for an adult and allows one visit each to five museums over 12 months. That suits a return visit or a couple of museum days better than a quick stop for the streets and river views. In Brno, a 90 CZK transport ticket covers 24 hours in zones 100 and 101; attraction admission is a separate decision.
The words denní menu or denní nabídka lead you to a restaurant's daily dishes. Look for the date and the lunch serving period. A fixed-price main can come with dumplings or potatoes, while soup and a drink add to the total. For a shorter meal, order a filled roll or an open sandwich rather than automatically adding a café stop and a full lunch. Buy food before a long transfer if you want control over both the choice and the bill.
At a card terminal, select CZK if you want your bank or card provider to do the conversion. An offer to charge your home currency uses the conversion offered there instead. Read any withdrawal fee separately; a familiar bank logo does not make every withdrawal free. Keep a little cash for small purchases. For a trip built around cafés, squares and museums, put Brno and Olomouc on the shortlist. Choose accommodation within walking distance of the centre so a lower room bill does not come with daily taxi costs. Brno also makes a practical base if you want city life alongside trips into South Moravia.
Prague Castle admissions, Krumlov museum visits and Karlovy Vary spa treatments are separate spending choices. Decide which matter to you before booking accommodation. A short stay beside the sights can make more sense than a cheaper room that adds two paid journeys each day.
Look for denní menu or denní nabídka at lunchtime. Compare the main, side, soup and drink before ordering. In restaurants, on card terminals and at cash machines, choose CZK and read the fees. Use city transport tickets that cover your actual journey; airport expresses and visitor cards have separate conditions.
Prague's castle, Charles Bridge and Old Town are the obvious draws, but Vinohrady and the Vyšehrad parks give you space beyond the busiest streets. Put the castle on its own morning. The right city ticket then depends on how much walking you want between the other stops.
Brno brings architecture and café stops into a compact centre, with Villa Tugendhat as the visit to plan furthest ahead. The villa's garden and technical-floor exhibition offer a free alternative to an interior tour. Leave time around your booking for lunch and the streets between the squares.
Český Krumlov's castle stands above a bend in the Vltava, close to a small centre of lanes and places to eat. Staying overnight gives you another part of the day beyond the busiest sightseeing hours. The town's museum card and castle interior tours cover different things.
Karlovy Vary follows the river past colonnades and spa hotels, with hillside views above the centre. Walking the town is free; treatments and hotel spa packages are optional. Make the spa centre your main walk and choose Diana separately according to the weather, your mobility and the current service notice.
Olomouc has squares, fountains, churches and parks within a manageable city walk. The Holy Trinity Column is under restoration through the end of 2026, but the rest of the centre still makes a worthwhile visit. Add a museum if you have more than an afternoon.
