Put the Acropolis and museum in separate blocks
Book the hill visit around the heat and your energy, rather than squeezing it between lunch and a ferry. The approach involves climbing and exposed ground. Carry water and wear shoes that grip stone; a nearby metro station does not make the archaeological site a level walk.
The Acropolis site ticket is €30 for an ordinary adult. The Acropolis Museum is €20 separately. If you want both, allow €50 before other sights. Reduced or free admission depends on eligibility and documents, so check the rules for your group before paying.
Choose a room by the journeys you will make
Koukaki suits a stay centred on the hill and museum. Syntagma makes airport and city connections straightforward, while Monastiraki puts the old centre close by. Read recent room reviews for night noise, air conditioning and lifts. With bags, a slightly less picturesque street beside a useful station can be easier than a hillside room reached by steps. Confirm late check-in if you arrive after an evening flight.
Plan one small area at a time
Pair the Acropolis side of town with a walk through nearby streets, then leave Monastiraki and the Ancient Agora for another block. You do not need to buy entry to every ruin to enjoy the centre. A shaded break or an unhurried lunch can be more useful than one more ticket on a hot afternoon.
For meals, compare portions and the total order. Several small shared dishes can add up quickly. Keep one flexible evening without a reservation so you can eat near where the day finishes.
Leave Athens from the right place
The airport, Piraeus ferry port and the intercity bus stations are different journeys. Read our Athens airport and port guide before buying onward tickets. At Piraeus, add time to reach the gate printed on your ferry booking. For a mainland coach, use the operator's named departure point, not a generic search for “Athens bus station”.
The daily budget below is a plan you can adjust. Add your airport journey, intercity tickets and any visits above the selected activity allowance; do not add a second accommodation amount from another calculator.

€30.00Booking and rates: Book the Acropolis site through the official ticket link and follow the selected entry slot. The €20 Acropolis Museum is a separate visit. Take water and shoes with grip for the slopes and worn stone.
Ways to save: Free or reduced admission depends on the official eligibility rules and supporting documents. Outdoor views from nearby hills are a separate outing.

Getting Around
Walk between nearby central sights and use the metro for longer hops. The airport needs a special fare; a normal urban ticket does not cover the full journey to ATH.

€9.00Use an airport-valid Line 3 ticket. The ordinary €1.20 city fare does not cover the airport section. Around 40 minutes to Syntagma is a planning allowance; add the wait and onward walk. Check the last airport train for a late arrival.

€5.50X95 goes to Syntagma, around 60 minutes; X96 goes to Piraeus, around 90 minutes. Both run 24 hours, with traffic and timetable gaps affecting the trip. The €5.50 ticket is for the airport bus. Find the ferry gate before choosing a Piraeus stop.

Look at the full menu before sitting down. A bakery breakfast or takeaway lunch can leave more of the food budget for a relaxed evening meal. Ask about bread, water and any extras you did not order.
Worth Paying For
Choose the Acropolis for the setting, the Acropolis Museum for the objects and interpretation, or both if ancient Athens is a priority. Give each visit its own time and ticket allowance.
Skip / Save Your Money
Skip a sightseeing pass until you have added up the specific visits you will make. A free walk around the lower historic centre is still worthwhile on a day without paid entry.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Check exactly which attraction a ticket covers. The old €30 combined archaeological ticket is not the current Acropolis product, and the Acropolis Museum is a separate visit.
