Day 8: Amsterdam to Luxembourg City

Train · Fast connections take about 5½ hours

Travel to Brussels-Midi/Zuid, then change for Luxembourg. Eurocity Direct leaves from Amsterdam Zuid, while Eurostar uses Centraal. Book the complete international journey and check the ticket’s rules before choosing a fixed or flexible departure.

Day 9: Luxembourg City to Zurich

Train · Allow roughly 5½–7 hours

Search the complete journey through Strasbourg and Basel, including any additional change. Separate tickets can have different missed-connection protection. Keep the arrival evening in Zurich simple.

Day 10: Zurich to Lucerne

Train · About 50 minutes

This guide starts at Zurich HB. From Zurich Airport, search the full journey: the best departure may be a through service or require a change. Do not use the city-to-city time as the airport transfer time. Luzern station is close to the lake piers and a walk from the old town. If you want a boat after arrival, allow time to store bags and find the correct pier. A later boat leaves more room for delays than a tightly timed connection.

Day 11: Lucerne to Interlaken

Train · About 1h 50m

Zentralbahn accepts an ordinary ticket for the route, and valid Swiss Travel Pass coverage applies. An individual seat reservation is optional and costs extra. Do not confuse that extra with a compulsory premium-train fare. Brienz or Lungern can be a planned break, but check that your ticket permits the chosen onward train. The basic service is hourly. Luggage and the next departure determine whether a stop feels relaxed. This train arrives at Interlaken Ost. If your room is nearer West, add the local journey. A guest card may help once valid, but read the host’s arrival instructions first.

Day 12: Interlaken to Grindelwald

Train · About 40 minutes

Follow the signs and onboard destination for Grindelwald. Do not rely on an old instruction to always choose the rear coaches: the operating arrangement can change. Lauterbrunnen is a different valley destination. Get off at Grindelwald Terminal for the Eiger Express connection when that is your plan. For the village and the First gondola approach, use the suitable village stop and local route. A ticket into Grindelwald is not automatically a ticket to First or Jungfraujoch.

Look for 131R rather than the slower 131. Read the current Florence departure notice: some services use Via Orti Oricellari near Santa Maria Novella. In Siena, confirm Via Tozzi or the stop on your departure. Traffic affects the duration.
