Lisbon → Sintra
TrainTake the urban train, then allow a separate journey to your chosen monument. Keep the same Lisbon room for a day trip and book the palace slot with the uphill approach in mind.
Lisbon → Cascais
TrainUse the coastal rail line from Cais do Sodré, checking the works notice before you choose the return. Cascais town and Guincho beach need different onward plans.
Lisbon → Faro
TrainA direct mainline train can make this a comfortable mainland move. Compare the coach for your date and keep Faro city, the airport and a beach resort as separate arrival destinations.
Lisbon → Coimbra
TrainChoose a train to Coimbra-B or a coach to its booked terminal, then allow the city connection before your university visit. The old Coimbra-A shuttle-train advice no longer fits the current arrangement.
Porto → Braga
TrainUse a CP urban train for a straightforward Braga visit, then plan Bom Jesus as a separate local journey. Keep enough time to return from the sanctuary to the station.
Porto → Guimarães
TrainTake the urban train, then walk into the historic centre after leaving your bags if needed. Check current palace and castle access before deciding how long to stay.
Porto → Aveiro
TrainCompare the CP urban train with a reserved faster departure from Campanhã. For a short visit, the canals and centre fit more comfortably than adding the separate Costa Nova journey.
Use Régua as the first valley base and choose Pinhão only when its extra rail time fits. Book any vineyard transfer before fixing a tasting appointment.
Faro → Lagos
TrainCompare the regional train with the coach around your actual arrival time. If starting at Faro Airport, include the city transfer or check the separate direct airport-coach option.
Lisbon → Évora
TrainCompare the reserved train with the coach, then leave time for the approach to the walled centre. An overnight stay lets you enjoy Évora after the daytime visit.
Lisbon → Madrid
FlightA flight can suit a short trip, while a direct coach avoids airport connections. Allow about 1¼–1½ hours in the air or roughly 8–10 hours by coach, then add local travel.
A direct coach is the simpler connection. The rail alternative runs through Vigo and currently includes a replacement bus, so allow a substantial connection margin.
Madrid → Seville
TrainTake a suitable direct train from Atocha to Seville Santa Justa. Allow around 2¾–3¼ hours on the train and keep the first part of your Seville stay flexible.
Madrid → Valencia
TrainHigh-speed trains make this a manageable move to the coast. A suitable departure takes about two hours, but Madrid’s station name matters when you book.
Madrid → Granada
TrainA direct train is a useful choice for a Granada stay, with a coach as an alternative. Plan roughly 3½–4 hours by a suitable train or 4½–6¼ hours by coach, plus local travel.
Madrid → Toledo
TrainAtocha’s Avant train is the quick main journey, while a coach from Plaza Elíptica can suit a different starting point. Add the uphill approach into Toledo’s old town to either option.
Madrid → Córdoba
TrainA suitable direct train makes Córdoba a practical overnight stop or day trip from Madrid. Allow roughly 1¾–2¼ hours on the train, plus the walk or local ride into the old centre.
Madrid → Bilbao
BusCompare the direct coach and Alvia train for the departure you need. Allow roughly 4¼–5½ hours by coach or around 4½–5½ hours by a suitable train, plus local travel.
Madrid → Málaga
TrainA suitable direct high-speed train connects Atocha with Málaga María Zambrano in roughly 2¾–3½ hours. It leaves the airport transfer out of a city-to-city journey.
Madrid → Segovia
TrainThe fast train takes about half an hour, but arrives outside Segovia’s old town. Compare it with the coach from Moncloa using the whole journey to the aqueduct.
Madrid → Salamanca
TrainChoose the train by station and journey time, not just by destination. Faster and slower services can use different Madrid departure points; allow about 1¾–3 hours according to the train selected.
Barcelona → Valencia
TrainUse a suitable Euromed train for a straightforward move down the coast, or compare a coach if its fare and time fit better. Allow roughly 3–3¾ hours by a suitable train and around 4–5½ hours by coach.
A suitable direct Alvia train makes this a full travel day with a central arrival. Allow roughly 5½–7 hours according to the departure and keep the evening flexible.
Barcelona → Madrid
TrainA direct high-speed train is a useful first choice for travelling from Barcelona Sants to Madrid. Plan roughly 2½–3½ hours on the train and leave time for the arrival station.
